Lake Amadeus, Australia

Bernhard Edmaier

Art photography by Bernhard Edmaier, Landscape. Picture size: 100 x 100 cm, framed in modern shadow gap frame Luna, White.

It is not exactly known why the sand islands in Lake Amadeus, situated in the Australian desert, are round. After the rare downpour of rain in this region, they are surrounded by water, which, in turn, gradually evaporates. The circular structure is maintained by the plants growing on the islands and stabilising the sand with their roots.
